ARRA 2009 Summer Youth Employment
ARRA 2009- Summer Youth Employment is funded by the Nashville Career Advancement Center whom serves as our local Workforce Investment Agency. ULMT served 110 youth. Employment partners for the program included Abundance Academy, A.M.E. Church Financial Department, Bordeaux Long Term Care, Hospital Corporations of America, Inc., Corinthian Baptist Church, Davidson County Sherriff Office, Department of Labor, Fashioned In His Image, Fifteenth Baptist Church, Johnson Controls, Knowles Home Assisted Living, Lewis & Wright Funeral Directors, McGruder Family Resource Center, Meharry Medical College Women’s Center, Metro Teachers Apartments, Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, Nashville Black Film Festival, Nashville Opportunities Industrialization Center, Nurses for Newborns, Pride Publishing Inc., Premier Dental, Stand for Children, Tennessee State University, Urban League of Middle Tennessee, Northwest Family YMCA, Boy’s & Girl’s Club at Preston Taylor, Magness Potter Community Center and the YMCA Y-CAP Program.
The Summer Youth Employment Program kicked off on June 1, 2009 with a week of orientation at St. James Missionary Baptist Church. During the orientation the youth were given workshops on career exploration, financial management, dressing for success, interviewing skills, resume preparation, communication skills and business etiquette. The youth are gaining experience in the office, meetings or what their working environment is so that they are able to operate in the various environments they are in. The youth are working closely with managers to obtain first hand accounts of their business practices.
