There are Seven NULITES Principles students are asked to uphold:
1. STRIVE for excellence at home, school and in my community.
2. WORK within my neighborhood to further its development.
3. RESPECT my mind and body as well as the mind and bodies of others.
4. CELEBRATE my heritage and culture as well as those of others.
5. CREATE a better future for my family, other people and myself.
6. CARE for the world’s people and environment.
7. PROMOTE a universal spirit of cooperation and peace.
Aided by a grant from Comcast, the Urban League of Middle Tennessee (ULMT) is working to reinstate its NULITES Chapter. We are initiating the reinstatement process by taking four youth, who participated in the NULITES/Project Ready Case Competition, to the NULITES Youth Summit in Chicago, IL. Youth will stay on the University of Illinois Chicago Campus from July 29 – August 1, 2009 where they will participate in workshops and engage in a variety exciting activities. The Youth Summit is part of the Urban League National Conference.
Some of our goals are for our NULITES Chapter are to complete membership enrollment by October 15, 2009, train up to 50 NULITES participants by October 30, 2009, and host two community leadership forums – a King Holiday Celebration in January 2010 and Global Youth Service Days in April 2010.
