Achievement Matters “Doing the Right Thing”

In September 2008, community leaders, educators, corporate supporters, families and friends joined ULMT in honoring 45 middle school and high school students who were nominated by their schools to receive the award. The celebration included: a keynote speech by Dr. Julie Williams, Executive Principal of Maplewood High School, tributes in music and dance, and dinner for the honorees and their families. The celebration was held at Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church. Each student received a certificate from the office of Thelma Harper, State Senator, 19th Senatorial District, a “Lamp of Learning” medallion in honor of academic achievement, and a $25.00 gift card. Comcast was the underwriter of the 2008 “Doing the Right Thing” program. Doing the Right Thing is an annual recognition of National Urban League Affiliates across the country.
